For the $26 I paid, it was a steal. I can now use the MicroSDHC card slot, so I have 6 Gb available, which is plenty for me. I like this little player a lot, but I've really enjoyed it much much more since I loaded the Rockbox software on it. Way better than Sansa's default. The 'lanyard' setup has to be the worst I've ever seen, however.
Being able to add additional storage was a huge plus. Great product for a great price. Other than not finding many accessories for this product, I have no complaints. My husband would prefer an EQ more like the iPod, but prefered the easy file transfer that does not require a whole music database to operate.
As far as the user interface, I cannot, for the life of me, understand why people have such a hard time with this. This problem is cured by Rockbox, so I'm not quite sure why SanDisk didnt allow for contrast adjustment and/or create a better background colorset, but it is what it is. ESPECIALLY to the Rockboxers (More on this later) First of all, this is NOT a high-end unit, and no one has proclaimed it to be. It really couldnt get much simpler. Specifically, the contrast is way off, which makes selection a bit more difficult. Not impossible, tho.
And it's free. That being said, the build quality, interface, sound quality and battery life are much more than expected at this price level. It's called Rockbox. Google it if you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm writing this to address and/ or counter the less than stellar reviews given by some of the questionably intelligent "reviewers". It is easily installed and makes the unit worth its weight in gold. A super cheap MP3 player with above average performance. I will say, however, the STN LCD screen is definitely not going to win any awards any time soon.
I realize this product is quite old, but due to it's price, is still quite popular. You press up, down, left and right then click in the middle. Getting music on your player is quite an easy task. I would also recommend a better pair of IEM headphones. Not only does it increase the SQ by way of infinite sound adjustments, it also expands on, and adds a TON of features not included with the factory firmware. (I use this word very loosely). If you find anything other, then I would suggest a lobotomy. How much simpler do you want it.
In summary, do NOT be deterred by the questionable negative reviews as none have complained about anything that is either a huge problem, or cannot be rectified. The stockies, while are not awful, are certainly not anything I'd call grand. I'm gonna keep this as brief as possible. You can "drag-and-drop" via MSC mode or sync with your favorite audio player(WMP, Winamp, Foobar, etc) via MTP mode. Lastly, those complaining about SQ, there is a simple solution.
Good value for the buck, it works fine, software is not great, slow and difficult to update. did not include the CD
2 Gigs was great for me but may be small for people who like lots and lots and lots of songs. I always liked sansa and was never an Apple fan. I am very happy. This was a great Mp3 player. I used to sell electronics and this was one I would recommend. I have a hundred and some songs and havent filled a quarter of capacity.
